Having spent some time recently with my older sister, it reminded me of so many shared moments in our youth. Those years were some of the most formidable in our lives. The times you spend trying to keep
yourself busy when bored during long summers, fights that get resolved because your sisters and can’t erase each other from your lives and shared experiences with family, both good and bad. Each contributes to the development of personality and what the paradigm of a family should be.
For Terri and I, on the outside we look as different as can
be. On the inside though, the heart of who we are, is very similar. We both
yearned for a close knit family with our own children when we grew up and the
stability of knowing we were grounded in love and in education. We both have developed very strong female
friendships that have been a source of strength and joy for us both. The unconditional
regard and acceptance with love from family is wonderful but from someone you
are not related to is priceless. This affirmation is based on choice. Great friends are like an adoptive family
member.
When it is all said and done though, the unconditional love
between siblings is a bond that is hard to break. Thank God for that!
